Once upon a midnight dreary…..enter "The Raven"! I have always been a "BIG" fan of Edgar Allen Poe and wanted to do a Raven that I felt would present itself with that particular flavor that you get from one of Poe's wonderful masterpiece. I think I did it!

I love this guy and believe me when I say the picture "REALLY" does not do him justice. This guy is made from extremely distressed and painted muslin. He has a stitched face and quilted, wired wings. The wings can be posed in many different ways to add to this bird's character! He has wire feet that have been taped and painted. Each foot is molded over and nailed to a very distressed and "primmmmmed" pedestal. The pedestal has gone through many paint changes to get the look it has right now. To add to the vintage look of the bird and pedestal the words "THE RAVEN" have been added using typewriter looking letters covered with a clear epoxy then antiqued. In the claw like feet of "The Raven" are two pieces of vintage looking paper that has been mounted onto fabric with the entire poem of "THE RAVEN",very appropriate huh? The entire piece measures 20" tall the way that it is now, less if the wings are folded down and more if they are bent upward. "The Raven" has two very black brads for eyes and a rusty liberty bell, hanging from a hemp cord, around his neck.

I have been noticing all the wonderful variations of "STUMP" dolls out there so I thought I would try some of my own and since Halloween is my favorite time of year "TA-DA" Halloween Stump Dolls

Each doll is made from muslin that has been painted and distressed to give it that old and vintage look and feel. The faces have all been hand-stitched and shaded to enhance the stitching. All dolls are heavily weighted so they stand great on their own. They look good with groups of pumpkins, leaves, corn or any other "Fallish" centerpieces. They are a wonderful "PRIM" accent anywhere.

The little witch has sisal hair and a felt hat. She is dressed in a Halloween colored calico skirt and has a osnaburg banner around her neck that has "WICKED" stamped on the front. The little ghost is dressed in eerie dyed cheesecloth with a tiny rusty bell sewn to his head. He is wearing an osnaburg banner with "HAUNTING" stamped to the front. Our buddy the black cat has sisal whiskers and a sweet stitched face with an osnaburg banner that says "SCAREDY CAT" hmmmm is he???? Next we have the cutest little crow with his own little wool hat. He has a stitched beak and eyes and his little wings are quilted. His banner tells us he likes "MIDNIGHT"! Last but hardly least is the little pumpkin. He has the sweetest stitched face and rusty nail stem. His osnaburg banner reminds us what time of year it is with "TRICK OR TREAT" stamped on the front.

I love witches and I always get a bit depressed as Halloween approaches because my beloved witches have to start taking a backseat to good ol' Santa and the Frosty men from up North! I do, however, have a special place in my diningroom for all my Halloween keepsakes and my witch collection! I leave it out all year round to always keep me in the Halloween spirit!

I love this little lady, Mistress Birdie Screech. A witch with no sense of direction and who really messed up on her last spell and now has a pair of "Bat Wings" permanently attached to her back! Even with her screw-ups and her absent-mindedness she has a big heart and only wants to help with all the Halloween festivities! Let's hope Ol' Birdie doesn't make any wrong turns on her way to the annual Halloween Festival, that pumpkin just might spoil!

Birdie Screech is made from painted and distressed muslin. She has a stitched face and painted eyes. Birdie is mounted on top of a wooden dowel that has the appearance of a large broom. The bristles are from an old "Witches" broom I have lying around here, tee hee! Birdie is carrying her pride and joy pumpkin made from wool felt with OCT. 31st embroidered on the front and a rusty old key hanging from it. There are all kinds of rusty wire curly-ques to give this creation some extra whimsy. The word "MAGIC" is on the front of the pedestal in clear epoxy covered letters that have been antiqued.
