I just love the colors of autumn, and this 26” doll is dressed in leaf print cotton that is so rich in hues of deep reds, gold, orange and vivid green. With her crown, her full length is 28”.
She is made from muslin, which I have stained for a beautiful aged appearance.
Ready for the Masquerade Ball, she wears an empire waist dress, which has a black satin bodice, finished with a gold and black looped trim, which has been sewn on. On the back of her dress, I’ve sewn on two gold and black buttons, off-set to the right. Her sleeves are puffy, and gathered at the edge. Under her dress, she wears a pair of black satin bloomers, which have a hand gathered waistline.
She wears a pair of evening length black gloves, trimmed in white. Her arms are jointed at the elbow. Her crown was adapted from a pattern by Back Porch Pickins. It is made from two layers of muslin, which has been painted a harvest gold, then sprinkled with white glass glitter. It has thin gold elastic cording to hold it onto her head, and is removable.
In her right hand, she holds her masquerade mask. I made this pinked edge mask from muslin, then stiffened it with a mixture of black acrylic paint and starch, then baked it to dry. Adorning the front of the mask, I once again used the trim from her bodice, to tie the accessories together. Her mask has a small wooden dowel that was glued on, and it is wired onto her hand with a piece of hemp covered wire.
She wears a pair of simple black pumps, and her final accessory is a copper toned metal leaf choker, tied around her neck with the same gold elastic cording used for her crown.
I used artists’ pencils to draw her facial features free-hand. I have given her bright green eyes, and red wine colored lips. I have drawn her eyebrows and nose, and then needle stitched them for depth and definition. She has dimples sewn into her cheeks, which have been lightly blushed. I have used a sealer on her face to prevent fading or smearing.
She has a full head of beautiful chestnut brown curly sheep’s wool, which has been needle felted into place.
